The proposal for a scaled-down expansion of New York’s Javits Convention Center has met stiff opposition from show organizers and tourism officals. While the original blueprint called for an expansion of 500,000 square feet, Governor Elliot Spitzer’s current plan would add only 100,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space. “Friends of Javits,” a coalition of exhibition producers, is taking its case to New York State legislators; a public hearing has been scheduled for February 28th.
